Mentoring sessions are typically once a week for 45 – 55 minutes.
That is a great question! Mentoring sessions differ by school and are typically scheduled through the collaboration of the MentorSuccess™ Program Administrator and parents/guardians. While lunch, recess, and after school sessions are popular, we will work with you to find a time that is most beneficial to your student.
Mentors are encouraged to arrive 10-15 minutes early, if possible, to sign-in at the school office and review their Mentor Toolkit. Once the student arrives, mentors and students will often spend time in conversation, read & discuss a book together, and then engage in a skill-building game or activity. *Mentors have the opportunity to sit-in on a mentoring session before they begin mentoring.

Absolutely. All mentors go through a thorough vetting process and are required to pass a background check and receive training before they begin mentoring. As volunteers, mentors are subject to all volunteer requirements for the school or site at which they mentor. Our priority is the safety and wellbeing of our students and mentors. All mentoring is held in a designated open and supervised space. For further information on mentoring guidelines and policies, please contact mentorsuccess@hisheartfoundation.org.
