Creating success for children. Enhancing their future by mentoring children to succeed in learning, in life, and in relationships.

MentorSuccess™: A positive student mentoring program focused on quality literature and student interests, designed to help children develop character, success skills, and academic achievement.

Have you ever met a child who has given up on learning or feel they can’t succeed in life? At His Heart Foundation, we want to intervene before these kids develop the belief that their lives are hopeless.

Face Time in Place of Screen Time

Research has proven children learn to improve relationship skills by talking with engaged adults, not by spending hours on end interacting with a screen. Our program is a way to counteract so many negative cultural trends that have encouraged a rise in narcissism and a decline in empathy among young children and teens. Effective mentoring and role modeling can help remedy this nationwide problem.

How does it work?

Our MentorSuccess™ program is easy as 1-2-3. It is:

Structured: The structure in our program provides easy to follow instructions for mentors. It also provides accountability and more time on task. Our mentors have carefully scripted directions to help them guide student activity and learning assignments. Many students having difficulty in class often lack structure at home. This provides the structure they need. Both your time and the student’s time will not be wasted!

Customized: The award-winning literature we use is carefully analyzed and is appropriate to the students age, reading level, and especially to their self-identified interest areas. It is also customized to the character traits and success skills they need to develop. This customization encourages the student to be engaged in their own learning.

Focused: Our one-on-one mentoring experience is concentrated on teaching each student what  highly successful students learn at home. The learning can at the students preferred pace, adjusted to the students learning style, and allow for a lot of interaction between student and mentor.

Objectives: Studies show that mentoring and mental health are deeply connected, and are a highly recognized protective factor for fostering mental health and emotional well-being. The objectives achieved through the MentorSuccess™ program will have a cascading effect in developing mental health throughout the children’s lifetimes.

At MentorSuccess we say mentoring easy as 1-2-3. Why? Each student will have a carefully structured student folder with three pockets for the mentor to use. The first pocket will contain a book selected to fit their interests and reading level and will include easy to follow critical thinking and creative thinking questions for the mentor to share with the student. The second pocket of the folder will contain vocabulary words for the student to learn. We say that vocabulary is the software of the mind, and indeed when you teach a student a new word it opens up new worlds of learning for them. The third pocket contains easy to follow directions on helping the student learn about character traits or success skills that have been chosen for them.

MentorSuccess™ also includes extensive training for our volunteers. They are taught to read with, and not to, the students. They are also taught mentoring skills to help them bridge the generational and possible ethnic differences they may encounter. We want to make it easy for you and the student to succeed!

While mentoring is not the answer to all of our problems, it is the answer to many. There are a lot of lonely people out there, both young and old, that need to make a caring connection. I am dedicated to developing MentorSuccess™ into becoming a major contributor to making these connections that positively change the lives of children and mentors.

Special Note: The MentorSuccess™ program is now active at several Vancouver area and Woodland schools. We are now expanding the program, making it available to churches and schools throughout the USA.

The program evolved out of the nationally recognized research-based HOSTS (Help One Student to Succeed) program that enjoyed over thirty years of sustained success.
