5 Ways to Relieve Stress

Today we’re gonna talk about 5 ways to relieve stress.

In our series on stress, we’ve debunked 5 myths about stress and covered how stress affects us mentally and physically. Today it’s all about relieving stress.

  1. Eat Food That Reduces Stress: When you’re feeling overwhelmed, what you eat matters so try things like: blueberries, green leafy veggies, oatmeal, turkey breast, pistachios, yogurt, salmon, dark chocolate, avocado, or cashews.
  2. Get Moving: When feeling stressed it’s easy to hibernate and zone out, but one of the best things we can do is stay active. Exercise can re-focus our minds and get those endorphins flowing. It can be as simple as walking, gardening, hiking, or joining a friend for a jog.
  3. Connect with People: Isolation is tempting when you’re feeling ticked off and grouchy, but it’s not going to get us where we want to be. Reaching out to a friend or family member and keeping our social connections strong will make a huge difference. It’s also the strongest predictor of a long life!
  4. Check Your Attitude: I love the Proverb that states “a cheerful heart is good medicine” (Proverbs 17:22 NLT). It’s scientifically proven that laughter causes positive physical changes in our bodies by boosting the immune system and relieving stress.
  5. Seek Counseling: You might be experiencing a transition in life that is just too much to handle on your own. Counseling can help you learn some new coping skills and enable you to process the things that are causing you worry and stress.

Remember what it says in Proverbs 19:20…

Scripture:

Get all the advice and instruction you can, so you will be wise the rest of your life. (Proverbs 19:20, NLT)
